The Freelance National Anthem

Here's a little Friday tidbit: it's the Freelance National Anthem.

(To impatient to listen? Work in an office where sound coming from the computer is uncool? Read the lyrics and think of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy.")

The Freelance National Anthem
by Bill Dyszel

We are fulltime freelance writers
What we love is being free.
We don't need no stinkin' office!
We don't need security!
Every day of freelance writing
Brings a different kind of joy!
And it keeps our families doubting
That we're actually employed.

Every morning we give thanks
We're not commuting with the mob
We don't worry that we could get
Fired for napping on the job!
But if one day all those employees
Lost their jobs, one thing is true:
One day later, they'd be saying
They had all "gone freelance," too!

We are never sure if we will
Make a profit or a loss
But we can't be terminated
Just for flipping of fthe boss
Benefits are had to come by
And the money's not enough
But our treasure is the endless
Joy of working in the buff!

Cute things falling asleep

It has been one long week for many of us, and I'd like to suggest the following timewaster: Cute Things Falling Asleep. The domain name really says it all, but you have to actually look at the site to appreciate the "Awwwwwwww....!" factor. Here's an example:

Mt. St. Helens

I wanted to take a moment to post a picture I took on Saturday driving home from Tacoma. In a very rare instance, Mt. St. Helens was clear from 50 miles to the North. The north slope on the left is the part that blew out on May 16, 1980 and caused the pyroclastic flows of boiling mud. This picture was taken with extreme magnification, but if you look carefully you can just make out the steam plume in the middle. As we got closer, we could clearly see the steam plumes forming and rising.
The mountains here are our local reminder that Nature bats last.

Good morning to all!

It's a lovely morning and I thought to look up this song, which always makes me happy.
